Abstract: In this study, the vulnerability of foreigners to crime in India is examined, with a particular emphasis on the article, which offers an account of a research project that looks at the many crimes committed against Indian expats and investigates their root reasons. The t-test is used to identify significant variations in instances over two years, while the ANOVA statistical tool is used to detect significant overall changes in the victimisation rate. The National Crime Records Bureau of India’s official website (https://ncrb.gov.in/en/crime-india) served as the primary data source for this study. The data show that the most common crimes committed against Indian foreigners are theft, robbery, and assault. Most of these incidents occur in well-known tourist destinations and major cities. The survey also underlines the difficulties foreigners encounter when reporting crimes to the Indian police, such as language hurdles and a lack of legal knowledge. This study intends to contribute to the development of practical solutions to reduce victimization risks and improve the overall experience of foreign tourists in India by addressing the causes and effects of crimes against Indian foreigners.

Abstract: At the outset, it may be stated explicitly that this paper attempts to argue that the spread of modern education and consequent socio-cultural reforms, among other factors, indirectly played a key role in India’s struggle for independence. The role of other such factors, however, is not underplayed in the freedom movement. The British were highly zealous about spreading their education and culture outside. Statesmen like Lord Macaulay and Sir Cecil Rhodes were of the view that the English culture was the best and the most liberal in the world. If India, South Africa, and later the world as a whole were culturally “Anglicised” through the British pattern of education, it would pave the way for the social and political unification of the world. The idea of “Anglicizing” the world and thereby building up the empire and forging political and social unity of peoples at the global level under the leadership of the British, is apparent in the will of Sir Cecil Rhodes. He had desired “the extension of British rule throughout the world, the occupation by British settlers of the entire Continent of Africa, the Valley of the Euphrates … the whole of South Africa … the ultimate recovery of the United States of America as an integral part of the British Empire, the inauguration of a system of Colonial representation in the Imperial Parliament, which may tend to weld together the disjointed members of the Empire, and finally, the foundation of so great a Power as to render hereafter wars impossible and promote the best interests of humanity [1].” Thus, the belief in Britain’s role as the Messiah to civilise and unify the world by disseminating British culture was one of the essential reasons for the introduction of modern education in India.

Abstract: It has been almost 50 years since Bangladesh achieved its independence from Pakistani domination. The contribution and charismatic leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who declared the independence of Bangladesh, is beyond explanation. Bangabandhu delivered several historic speeches during his lifetime. However, one of the greatest and strongest speeches he delivered at the 29th United Nations (UN) General Assembly served as a guideline for Bangladesh and the entire world, solidifying him as a ‘global leader’. Bangabandhu emphasised ‘peace and Justice’ as he believed that only this could bring back discipline. The democratically elected Bangladesh Awami League (AL) government and the Prime Minister, H.E. Sheikh Hasina who is already recognized as a global leader are trying to implement all the directions that Bangabandhu mentioned in his speech regarding economic emancipation, peace and justice, social development, peaceful use of technology, good relationship with neighbors, upholding brotherhood and solidarity. These will help to build a peaceful world and Bangabandhu’s ‘Shonar Bangla’ or ‘Golden Bengal’. As a historical event, this paper draws on qualitative approaches, including content analysis, literature review, and interviews with academic scholars. The expected findings of the paper are to present the leadership quality of Bangabandhu and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through their speech at the UN, how they became global leaders, and the fair implications of Bangabandhu’s policies by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Abstract: Women have been suffering a lot during the COVID19 pandemic. Women have faced psychological, social, economic, and political problems during the pandemic. Traditional norms, the natural environment, the financial situation of women, the social structure of society, and the education system for women are among the factors that have influenced women’s political participation. In 2021, assembly elections were conducted in Assam, West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Pondicherry. The polls in these states have demonstrated that women’s participation in political affairs is crucial. Women party workers have participated in all types of party-related activities and election-related tasks, similar to those of male party workers. However, women’s participation in political affairs has decreased due to the burden of other household responsibilities and caregiving attitudes towards family members during the COVID19 pandemic in the northern states of India. The objectives of this paper are to analyse the status of women’s participation in political affairs during COVID-19 in the North East States of India and to find the reasons for the nonparticipation of women in political affairs during COVID-19. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire administered to a sample of 124 women via Google Forms and telephone interviews in the four Northeastern states of India: Assam (39), Meghalaya (31), Manipur (29), and Arunachal Pradesh (25). 96 (77.42%) of the women respondents have been participating in political discussions, rallies, meetings, and campaigns during elections. 88 (70.97%) of the women respondents have been participating in political affairs by casting their votes during elections. None of the women respondents have formed a political party and contested elections in their state. 96 (77.42%) of the women respondents have an interest in political affairs.

Abstract: As Artificial Intelligence (AI) rapidly transforms governance systems worldwide, its impact on tribal land rights in India brings both hope and concern. This paper examines the distinct challenges and opportunities that AI presents for tribal communities, which have historically worked to preserve their ancestral lands and territories. AI technologies, like advanced land mapping and automated records management, promise to make land governance more efficient and transparent. Yet, these advancements come with risks, such as data privacy issues, potential cultural erosion, and the fear of repeating past injustices. By exploring India’s legal protections, including the Constitution [1], the Forest Rights Act (FRA) [19], and the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA) [20], this paper emphasises the importance of respecting tribal autonomy and cultural heritage. Real-world examples, such as AI’s use in the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme, shed light on the balance needed between progress and preservation [7]. Grounded in insights from thinkers like Amartya Sen and Michel Foucault [15], the discussion calls for an approach where AI empowers rather than marginalises, highlighting the need for ethical safeguards, meaningful community involvement, and ongoing oversight. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that AI becomes a tool for upliftment, enriching tribal communities without compromising their rich cultural identities.

Abstract: This paper examines the British annexation of Awadh (1856) through the framework of colonial misinterpretation, focusing on how the British applied the norm-deviation concept to justify their imperial policies. Drawing on Partha Chatterjee’s “Pedagogy of Violence,” the paper critiques how Nawab Wajid Ali Shah’s rule was mischaracterized as “deviant” due to its divergence from Western bureaucratic norms. This portrayal fueled British claims of misgovernance, leading to the annexation, which disregarded Awadh’s indigenous political systems and cultural vitality. The annexation’s economic and social disruptions—heavy taxation, property confiscation, and the erosion of local industries—created widespread discontent among peasants, nobility, and sepoys, culminating in the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Additionally, the paper explores the conservative critique of British liberal policies, which highlighted the failures of ignoring local traditions. This conservative backlash advocated for a more respectful approach to Indian customs, ultimately influencing British governance reforms, including the Queen’s Proclamation of 1858. By examining these dynamics, the paper reveals the consequences of imposing foreign standards on a culturally rich and politically complex society, underscoring how the annexation of Awadh became a case study in the larger imperial struggle between governance, cultural misunderstanding, and resistance.

Abstract: This paper is derived from the author’s study on rural employment problems in Ethiopia. The research was conducted in 1998 in two rural districts of Ethiopia: Alemaya Woreda, located in the eastern Hararghe Zone, and Shirka Woreda, situated in the Aresi Zone. The study employed qualitative methods of data collection and qualitative analysis techniques. This paper argues that unemployment and underemployment in Ethiopia, as in other parts of Africa and the least developed countries, are the primary factors contributing to the country’s underdevelopment. Yet unemployment or underemployment rarely, if ever, receives attention from policymakers or decisionmakers. The paper examines the root causes of unemployment and the resulting poverty and underdevelopment of the country. A combination of historical, cultural, and political forces kept Ethiopia, economically speaking, a relatively underdeveloped country, even though it chose to adopt Western values and ideals since the turn of the 20th century. The introduction of modern money, the establishment of banks, schools, hospitals, communication, and service facilities brought the traditional society into direct and indirect contact, albeit with a considerable degree of selectivity and reinterpretation, with Europe and America at the height of their industrial development. One hundred years or so later, however, the Ethiopian society is still overwhelmingly rural, and to use the more value-loaded term, traditional. Therefore, it is emphasised that the project of modernity could marginalise the Ethiopian populace and, directly or indirectly, contribute to the problem of rural employment in the country. The paper then outlines the underlying macro- and micro-level causes and consequences of rural employment constraints, as employment in Ethiopia is predominantly rural. The problem of unemployment impinges upon the welfare of the nation. The final section summarizes the paper and forwards some key recommendations that are believed to alleviate rural poverty and generate rural employment. Although the paper focuses on the realities of the 1990s, the lessons reflected and the recommendations suggested are believed to be relevant to the present and the future.
